5 Ways to Connect to Your Higher Self

If you’re wanting to strengthen your connection with yourself and your own inner guidance then you’re in the right place! Lets explore 5 ways you can strengthen your connection with your higher self.

1. GET CREATIVE 🎨🎷
We often default to the analytical/logic part of our brain, particularly when we are under a lot of stress in our lives. Getting creative allows you to step outside of what is going on in life and allows the part of you that doesn't need to control or know the answers to take the reigns for a moment. When you enter a creative space you quiet your monkey mind and your true self comes out in whatever you create. It also opens doors to creative solutions, new ideas and insights to drop in.

Some creative ideas to consider:
1. Painting
2. Colouring in
3. Drawing
4. Playing an instrument
5. Dancing
6. Pottery
7. Sewing
8. Scrap booking
9. Poetry
10. Furniture building/refurbishing

What is something creative you've always wanted to try or used to do but stopped for some reason?

2. SPEND TIME IN NATURE 🍃

When we are busy, we forget to take time out to re-energise and reconnect with ourselves. One of the best ways I have found is going for a walk either in the forest with the trees or along the beach walking through the shallows.

Getting into nature brings fresh air into your lungs, energetically is very grounding, and gives you a great dose of vitamin D from the sun. Grounding is really important, especially when things are feeling a bit hectic. When we are grounded, we are able to respond to what is going on from a calm and centred place and are more able to connect to our inner wisdom/guidance.

3. HANG OUT WITH YOUR SOUL TRIBE 👯

When things seem to be going all wrong and life feels a little heavy we lose the connection with our higher self. The ego and the mind become louder and we forget to tune into our higher self. We're biologically designed to connect and to find safety through our soul tribe. Often when we're struggling though, our first tendency is to withdraw, isolate and shut down.

Your tribe are the people who bring out the best in you, they lift you up, they get it, they get you, they support and love you purely for who you really are. These are the people who remind you of who you really are when you have forgotten. The ones who say exactly what you need to hear, who love you as you move through the tough times and remind you that you are amazing and can get through anything. These people can't help but reconnect you with your higher self and feel amazing to be around.

4. PRACTICE BEING YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND 🥰

While its important to be connected with our community, its also important that we practice being ok on our own too. Learning how to enjoy our own company and to find those peaceful moments of solitude to go within and connect on our own is so important.  More often then not I hear you say that you never get a moment to yourself. You're busy parents, business owners, juggling families, friendships and responsibilities. It can be difficult to make time to be on your own.

If this is foreign to you, date yourself for a couple of hours, take yourself out for breakfast or a coffee and sit and read a book. Go to the beach or go to the movies on your own. Notice just how much space this creates within you.

The more often you do this, the more comfortable it becomes to be on your own. When you give this gift to yourself, you tune into more of who you are, what you enjoy doing and you begin to realise that in these quiet moments to yourself, your higher self has more space to enter and to be heard by you.

5. JOURNALING ✍
I used to think the idea was really lame. It made me think of that book you read when you're a teenager "Are you there god it's me Margaret?" by Judy Blume. I remember her talking about journaling by giving each day a grade A+, B- and narrating her day. I remember thinking... What's the point, how would that help anything 🤔

What I have learnt:
Journaling is a safe place to let your emotions out and to be radically honest with yourself. Your journal is where you get to say all the things that you feel you cant say out loud and is a way to express how you're truly feeling deep down without any judgment. Journaling gets it out of your mind and down onto the paper where you can leave it. It doesn't matter how angry, sad, alone, frustrated, happy, ecstatic, inspired, excited you are, there's something very therapeutic about writing it out.

Journaling allows you to see your thoughts from another perspective and to become the observer. Often as you're writing, you'll realise - “yeah that's not actually true, its how I feel but it's not real, it's just an illusion/programme/belief”. Sometimes when you get carried away in the emotion of whatever you are feeling the things you write can actually really surprise you, it just comes out and then you think “wow - I wasn't expecting that." You can also use your journaling practice to write out the things you are greatful for, and when you have tough days you can re-read it and be reminded that not all things are as bad as they seem.

Great healing comes from writing. Its a powerful tool to connect to yourself, your inner world and to create space for those inner whispers of intuition and for spirit to connect to you.
